Corona Madness

It’s Thursday 2/4/2020. Day 4 of shutdown for Tas. For Ellis Remedial it has been 11 days and yes it feels like forever! However, when I heard they were finally doing the full(well almost, you can still get a haircut!) lockdown I was relieved beyond words. For us to move forward and continue on as normal post Corona, we need to stem the spread now. We all know how hard it has been for business, it goes without saying. Let’s look at the silver lining though. People are being nice to each other, people are respecting others personal space (social distancing) and all the puppies have their humans at home, how excited must they be! But for me I think it is actually a good chance to let my body recover. The brain is constantly on overload and my level of enthusiasm is up and down like a YoYo but my body on the whole could probably do with a few weeks not massaging. I think in 7 years as a massage therapist I have probably only had a total of 2 months off. A week here, a week there so I guess a forced month to do nothing can’t hurt.

I am lucky in a sense that we have a huge property and quite a large home so there is always something to do. Today I am busy making savoury muffins. The kids informed me last night that it was the best thing I have ever made so I was ordered to make more! Finally something they will eat for lunch that they enjoy, when did kids become so fussy? Maybe I am letting my mind take me back to my childhood and remembering the feeling when we would come home from school and mum had been baking all day! The thought of sneaking yummy choc slice or ANZACS when we were supposed to be in bed made our tummies dance with delight. I still have no idea how mum didn’t hear us, I hear if our kids fart in bed, let alone sneak to the kitchen for food! So here I am in my kitchen getting my Betty Crocker on, oops, that last batch stayed in a bit too long, crunchy tops are ok right? I’ll blame the cheese!

I just wanted to post this today to check up on you all, see how you are all doing? Are you working from home? Have you been laid off and worried about the future? Are you going batty homeschooling your children? I am married to a teacher and it’s a little bit crazy in the teaching world at the moment. Trying to build an online learning platform in a matter of weeks is not ideal for anyone but they are doing the best they can. I hope you are all keeping well both physically and mentally, it certainly is a good time to make sure you still reach out. I am a big hugger when it comes to my friends so this isolation is killing me. Our cat, Fidel, unfortunately lost his battle with a bad heart back in Jan. He’s probably lucky he is not with us anymore because cuddling him would be the sole source of my existence if he was here and he hated cuddles! Maybe I’ll just have to hug the giant teddy in the toy room, at least it’s soft I guess.

I have contemplated starting a jigsaw to keep my mind occupied but at the same time I would feel guilty for not being outside or fixing something. How many of you like to do jigsaws to zone out? I have found that those without patience are not very good at them! Patience though is what we need in abundance right now. I might have to purchase some from somewhere, it’s certainly not my strong point. Ali growls at me for being impulsive and I have to agree it does bring me undone sometimes. Generally if I wan’t something I want it now, especially if it is an item that should work that doesn’t….that makes me insanely grumpy an impatient!

Anyway, my goodies are out of the oven so I should move onto my next task of the day. Not sure what that is yet, I’ll probably procrastinate for a while then decide. I really do hope you are all doing ok. If you need any advice please feel free to call me. I may not be able to help you physically but I can still advise you on how to manage your niggles.

Stay safe, be kind, don’t forget to smile and be grateful for what we do have.

What’s new? An update

Wow I just looked at my last post and it was way back in May! Life gets a little crazy sometimes and things like this get put on the back burner. This morning though I have time to breathe and so I thought I would post a little update on what’s been happening at Ellis Remedial during 2019. As you all know we sadly said goodbye to Jodie who moved into a field outside of massage. We did however pick up Lucas who has settled into the team awesomely. Lucas works Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and comes to us with plenty of massage experience. Lucas also does Dry Needling and Cupping for those who need a little more. He is starting to gain a following and is super passionate and knowledgeable. If you haven’t yet had a massage with him, book one in and try out his mad skills! Jimmy is still with us on a Tuesday and a Wednesday afternoon. These times change around depending on his Uni commitments and placements but at the moment that is his roster. One day he will be a nurse breaking all the hearts of the people who develop Jimmy crush, a known diagnosis to many who have crossed his path before. But on a serious note, he is studying hard and I’m sure will be an excellent nurse 🙂

As for me (Nikki), it’s been a great year so far. I got married in January, did the Tennis Tournaments again, rejoined the gym to get fitter and have personally just had a pretty good year. The business is going well and continues to grow with new clients walking through our doors on a weekly basis. It’s lovely to know that we are still receiving word of mouth referrals from our regular clients as well as those who join us from other means. Thank you to all of you who continue to support us. In an industry that unfortunately isn’t regulated, massage places pop up on every vacant corner these days. Last week I put up a post on our Facebook page about what to look for when choosing a massage therapist you can trust to have proper training and insurance. Jump on and have a peek if you are unsure what to look for.

We are fast approaching the business end of the year. I will be taking leave the 2nd week of the school holidays and will be away from Oct 7th returning to work on the 14th. Jimmy and Lucas will still be here to look after you all. Christmas week I will be hiking the South Coast Track so will also be away between Christmas and New Year. I will return for the first week of the year before my Tennis commitments will kick in but I will update those dates when they come to hand.

That’s about all for now. Once again we all thank you for your continual support and look forward to seeing you all soon.

How many years have you been massaging?

3 years, studied at island health in hobart.

Who is the most famous person you have worked on/with…person or team?

No body too famous, I’ve  worked on a lot of international athletes from a lot of sports.

What do you like to do outside massage?

Go to the movies, eat out with my girlfriend, have been known to play a video game or two.

What’s your favourite food?

Pizza, I can be bribed with pizza.

Who inspires you?

As I am a big fan of Olympic weight lifting I’d say Pyrros Dimas who is the most decorated Olympic weight lifter.

Your secret Hollywood crush?

Kate Beckinsale

What’s number one on your bucket list?

Seeing the terracotta warriors, I’ve never traveled out side of Australia.

Best job you ever had?

(Really Nikki?) Ellis remedial of course!

What’s your favourite thing about being a massage therapist?

When I decided to give up being a chef, I wanted to do something where I could make a change in the world. I feel like massage helps people, so in a way it’s a little self fulfilling.

What do you enjoy about working at Ellis Remedial?

Free Mentos!, just kidding. It feels good helping the community and I feel Ellis Remedial has strong ties to the locals. Oh and Nikki is cool too.  😋

How many years have you been massaging? I graduated and opened the doors to the business in 2013 so coming up to 6 years next week.

Who is the most famous person you have worked on/with…person or team? Ooh there have been a few. We looked after the North Melbourne team back in 2014 that included Ben Brown and co, Boomer was there but was suspended at the time. Luke Jackson is our Tassie cult hero, I looked after him for about 4 years. Any of the international tennis players, I guess even though they are not necessarily famous to us here in Aus, to their country they are heroes. Monica Niculescu being one of my faves, great personality and very contagious laugh! Maxwell the Aussie cricketer, my opinion of him is not very high though.

What do you like to do outside massage? I love to exercise and make sure I am feeling good. It get’s tough sometimes when there is always something else to do but I do what I can. I also love to create and build stuff or restore old things, it’s fun using power tools!

What’s your favourite food? Definitely Thai or Vietnamese. The flavours are always so amazing, we lack some good restaurants in Hobart though, a trip to Melbourne is always good for good food.

Who inspires you? Ooh this is a hard one, I can’t just pick one person here. The 3 people close to me would be my best friend Emma who blows me away with her strength and ability to race competitively since the age of 17 in some of the craziest sports going around. My wife, who as a school teacher does what I could never so and readies our next generation for the real world while also juggling family life and continuing to amaze me with her ability to always make awesome dinners when we say we don’t really have anything in the house, it’s a mum thing. And Heather, my friend, confidante and mentor. She wears so many hats while running her own massage business, managing family life and living the best life possible. Her adventures with hubby ACe put a smile on my face every time I see the pics of their latest last minute dash to chase sunsets or rainbows and just to be in the great outdoors.

Your secret Hollywood crush? Definitely not a secret! Sandra Bullock hands down.

What’s number one on your bucket list? To visit the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. I was brought up on country music and the history of that place just gives me chills. To walk the halls that have hosted some of the greats would just be the ultimate experience for me.

Best job you ever had?  Definitely this one. Although I loved working in hardware I just hated the 7 day trading and the cold shed!

What’s your favourite thing about being a massage therapist? The opportunity to meet so many people, make them feel awesome and also the chance to work with some really high class athletes. I love all of my clients, it doesn’t matter what they do and long as we can have a good laugh and they feel comfortable, I’m happy. I still have a few goals to kick before my massage career ends so I will be around for a while yet.

What do you enjoy about working at Ellis Remedial? As the owner I am proud of how far we have come. From a dream to reality and 6 years young now with 3 of the best therapists in Hobart I couldn’t be happier. My team are awesome as are our clients, what’s not to enjoy?

Ellis Remedial Therapies

Exciting news! New therapist joining our team.

I am happy to announce that I have finally found a therapist who will fit into our team perfectly here at Ellis Remedial. We welcome Lucas Amicosante who comes to us with 3 years post grad work under his belt. Lucas is a fully qualified remedial therapist who has a strong interest in strength and conditioning. Lucas was after a career change after working as a chef for 10 years and has never looked back. He strives to help rid his clients of aches and pains and takes pride in steering them in the right direction on the road to recovery.  Lucas is always looking to increase his skill set and remains on top of the latest in massage treatments, attending many workshops to gain knowledge and put that into practice during his massage sessions.  Lucas also does dry needling for those needing that little bit of extra help.  “Every new client brings me a new challenge which I enjoy working on. I use a systematic approach, working through each muscle group until I get to the bottom of the issue” Lucas has had plenty of experience with all kinds of clients and athletes. He will be available for appointments on a Wednesday and Thurs starting next week. Jimmy and I look forward to working alongside another awesome therapist.

Nikki

Changes ahead…

Hello everyone, Nikki here. We are full on into the new year and now that I am finally back on deck after a crazy start to the year I can let you know what is happening in the next few months.  I will be changing my working hours as of  March. Instead of having short days on a Monday and Friday I will be looking at changing these and swapping the Monday for a Wednesday. My week will look something like this. Monday full day 5 clients, Tuesday full day 6 clients. Afternoon spots on a Tuesday will change slightly however with my last appointment at 4:45 instead of 5:15. Wed am 3-4 clients, Thurs full day 6 clients and Friday am 3 clients. Wednesday afternoons will then be covered by Jodie who already does them and Jimmy who will then cover my room.  Jodie will also continue her regular Friday afternoon shifts and Jimmy will be doing a full day on a Tuesday.  This does seem a lot to get your head around so the best thing to do is to pop on over to our online booking page and see what we have available. https://ellisremedialtherapies.com.au/book-an-appointment/.  That is all I really need to communicate with you all for the moment. Keep on being awesome and let us keep you at your best!

It’s a wrap!

Firstly I would like to start by thanking our amazing clients for all  your support throughout 2018. Without you we would not survive. Also a massive thanks to Jimmy and Jodie, my 2 amazing offsiders who help keep me sane by having someone to bounce off, even if we are like ships in the night sometimes. With the stresses of UNI for both of them they still continue to provide an amazing service to our clients ensuring that Ellis Remedial remains one of the best massage clinics in Hobart.

I have mentioned in earlier posts that I will now be away until February. Fear not though as Jodie and Jimmy will be available to look after all your massage needs. Jodie will return on Dec 28th and will work her regular Wed and Friday afternoons. Jimmy will be returning on Jan 8th and will be available every day except Monday until the end of Feb. I will be returning to work on Feb 4. From Jan 13th I will be limiting my phone contact as I will be getting married so recommend you contact us via the online booking system. There will be someone looking after this for me during this period.

For now I wish all of you a very merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year. see you all in 2019

Beat the price rise, purchase now!

As mentioned on our post earlier this week, we will be having a price rise on Nov 19th. We have decided that we would like to help you avoid the rise by offering discount massage packs. These can be used for yourself or you can purchase a pack and give your staff members the best Christmas bonus there ever was! You can also purchase as many packs as you like.

Packs consist of 5 massages @ $400 each. That’s a saving of $50.

Pack of 10 massages @ $780 each. That’s a saving of $120.

Please note that these packs will be sold for each individual therapist so if you see one of us regularly then it’s a great way to save.

Be quick, offer available for the month of November only.
